A day of trumpet blasts | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

On the first day of the seventh month, gather in holy worship and do no regular work. This is your Day-of-Trumpet-Blasts… Numbers 29:1 (MSG).

Getting into the New Year has been solely by the power and grace of the Almighty God. Some people may have been happy that last year was a great year and some others may have seen it as a not-too-pleasant year. Whatever it was, the Bible says this New Year is a day of trumpet blast.

That means it is not a time to complain, grumble, talk about the past bad year or whine about what has not been working. We have to come before God and appreciate him greatly for seeing us through the past year.

Are there reasons we should see this day as a day of trumpet blast despite all the troubles we have been through? Should we sound the alarm and dance like there is no tomorrow when some of us may not have something to eat or look forward to?

Before you start thinking about what you don’t have, let us think about what God has taken you through already. In Mathew 6:34 the bible says ‘… sufficient for the day is its own trouble.’ That means every day of the past year had troubles. Many of us even had troubles but here we are standing in the presence of God.

That means the troubles we had did not consume us. Did we have enough intelligence to get trouble the troubles or to avoid them altogether? No! The bible says in Lamentations 3:22 ‘Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.’ You may think life has not been fair to you and that your troubles were too many. Well, you can see in scriptures now why you still made it through the troubles. It was because of God’s mercy.

When we go over to Psalm 91, we see so many dangerous and fearful things that the Lord has kept us from. Then we will understand that today has to be a day of trumpet blast for us. In verse 3 of Psalm 91, we were told ‘Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.’ Has he not done that repeatedly for you and I?
Verse 7 of Psalm 91 again says, ‘A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.’ You and I heard of thousands of people being killed all over the world in bomb blasts, car accidents, some mishaps in the home and in work places but all those things did not consume you and I.

We did not bring ourselves here, and we have no such power at all. God has been very good to us and we have to forget what has not worked. Ring the bell, sound the alarm, blast the trumpet. Praise God for making it into this great New Year in any way that you can.

According to Psalms 16:6, in this New Year, the lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance in Jesus mighty name. (Amen).
