According to His word – 4 | Fola Daniel Adelesi, ASM

For a long time now it has come to my understanding that what you say is not only important, you must know that God also takes what you say seriously and He stands by your word. When he had a conversation with Jeremiah He asked him questions about what he saw and God said, ‘thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.’ Another version – Bible in Basic English says, ‘you have seen well: for I keep watch over my word to give effect to it.’ I like that statement! That brings to mind the fact that God’s word is a verb! It is an action word because it performs and it has effects!

The important thing I really wanted you to see here is the fact that God asked Jeremiah what he saw and it was what he saw that God promised to perform or give effect to. In Numbers 14: 28 His word says, ‘say to them, by my life, says the Lord, as certainly as your words have come to my ears, so certainly will I do this to you’ (BBE). The new King James version says, ‘’just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will do to you.’ With this you must recognize the fact that what you say in God’s hearing is very powerful and it has an effect. In the scripture reference the Children of Israel were grumbling about being taken out of the land of Egypt into the wilderness which was not a destination by a route to their destination. God tried really hard to help them picture the promised land by giving them words that would create images in their minds. He told them that He was taking them to a land flowing with milk and honey but they could not keep their focus on the milk and honey. They could only keep their focus on the challenges of not having water to drink and the physical giants they had to confront.

When you do not keep your focus on the word of God, the effect is that you will respect your situation more than God’s word and consequently doubt God’s word. Sometimes the simple meaning of doubting God’s word is to say with your mouth that you believe what God says and the next minute you keep worrying about how you can ever get the solution to some of the challenges you are facing.

According to the word of God these were people who were going to the promised land flowing with milk and honey but they could not see the honey! They were only talking about their fears and how they thought they might die. The moment they began to think about death God stepped into the situation to say that what you have said in my ears is what I am going to do to you.

How many times have you called yourself small when God says you are big? How many times have people called you a big man or woman and you said, ‘how can I be a big man or woman? Each time people blow up your capacity or image you bring it down yourself because you cannot see what God is seeing and He already said he will deal with you according to your word!

Now when you say you are small, according to His word, He will reduce you to that small size. When you say you are poor, according to His word, He will leave you poor but if you act like Jeremiah and see the right pictures, He will do to you as you have said in His ears!
