And the heavens will open | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. – Mathew 3 16.

If a man will do anything in life and succeed at that thing, it is very important to operate under open heavens. In fact, the only way to enjoy your life and work without too much hassle is for the heavens to open over you. As we continue in this journey, the heaven will open over you in Jesus name.

In Mathew 3:16, we saw how the heavens opened over our Lord Jesus Christ when he went to John the Baptist to be baptized by water. John wanted to resist the Lord Jesus but Jesus asked him to permit it to be so. The first lesson to take away from that is the fact that Jesus was and is still greater than John the Baptist, yet he submitted to be baptized by him. That means there are a few things we can do that will make the heavens to open over us.

As soon as Jesus was done with the baptism, the heavens opened over him. We need to understand that Jesus was about to start something very important in his life. He had been preparing for this ministry for the past thirty years. It was now time to launch fully for a period of three and a half years. He knows that there is no amount of human preparation that can make anything work until there is the involvement of God.

The open heavens helped Jesus so much and all through his ministry. We saw how the Spirit that descended on Jesus helped him. The Spirit of God is the Spirit of wisdom and that was why Jesus had so much wisdom. John 7:15 says, ‘And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know letters, having never studied?’ The people marveled at the wisdom of Jesus.

Before Jesus began his ministry, God got involved through open heavens that saw the Spirit descending on him like dove. This was like an endorsement from heaven. It is very important that heaven endorses whatever it is that we are doing. If the heaven does not open over us, we will just keep struggling and contending with too many things.

The heaven that opened over Jesus helped him through the following:

  1. Jesus overcame temptations – Mathew 4: 3-11
  2. No opposition succeeded against him
  3. Jesus knew what to do in scarcity – Mathew 17: 27
  4. He had wisdom in confusing situations – John 6:6
  5. Jesus eventually finished all that he came to do – John 19: 30

If the heaven was not open over him, all that he did would have been very difficult for him to do. Life would have been miserable. He would not have been able to achieve much. I pray that that just as the heaven opened over Jesus and made things easy for him in life, the heavens will open over in Jesus name.
