Dealing with your fear of money | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

A few days ago I was having a chat with my wife and one other person who happens to be like a younger sister to her. One of the statements made was ‘it’s as if money has wings and it flies away.’ My answer was, ‘don’t you know the Bible actually says money has wings and it flies away?’ One of the reasons people are afraid of money right now is that they have an amount of money and before they say jack, the money is gone. They also cannot explain how the money disappeared.

The fear of the money disappearing easily and not coming back easily is what has made a lot of people become so afraid of money. Proverbs 23:5 says ‘When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.’ {ESV} The KJV version says ‘Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.’

Now that you know money can fly away as an eagle toward heaven, what do you do? How do you stop your money worries? What can you do to have abundance so that you will not start shouting at your spouse and kids anytime they ask you for money? In some homes, there will always be peace until the issue of money is raised. As soon as someone touches on the subject of money, there is a problem.

The first thing you have to do is to get some financial intelligence. When you realize that you are not making enough money or your think that you really need more money, the first thing is not to get another job. I am sure that will surprise you. If you get another job and they pay you more money, your expenses will rise and very soon, you will be looking for another job that will pay you more. If you ask for a salary raise, the raise will not totally take care of your worries. When you get a raise, your spending will also rise because you think you now have more money to spend.

If what you do is to get financial intelligence, then you will discover that you can actually do much with the little that you already have. In fact, if you search deeply, you will discover that you can almost make something out of nothing. If you have no money you can still do business with the knowledge available to you.

Financial intelligence will help you with the following:

  1. Help you plan your income
  2. See where your money is going
  3. Decide whether your money should continue going there or not.
  4. Show you how to delay gratification
  5. Guide you towards profitable investment
  6. Tell you how to create additional streams of income.
  7. Show you what to invest for the long term or the short term

The only reason people will be really afraid of money is because they know how long they have to wait to get it and how what they get does not meet their needs. Once you have taken care of what financial intelligence shows you then you will no longer be worried or be afraid about spending money. If at any point in time you have ever been worried about money, then you need to deal with the worry about or fear of money by getting financial intelligence.
