He went to the cross! │© Fola Daniel Adelesi

The present day church and the way we run some of our things call for a real concern. Some of those things we hear about in the church today are a bit scary! On one Sunday you hear some happened between two folks in church and they are fighting each other and the next Sunday it’s another set of people. The following Sunday you will find out some people are fighting with the pastor and the real essence of the church which includes, but not limited to, bringing more souls to the Kingdom of God is defeated! I also sometimes wonder if the church still keeps things like ‘Jesus went to the cross’ on the front burner for the whole church to constantly remember! We have to look back once in a while and ask what we have come to do in church or why we should remain in church! I will simply say we are in church and are confidently seating down today because Jesus went to the cross!

If he had not gone to the cross we would be thinking today about how to pay the debt we owe as a result of the sins we have committed! We would have had to walk to the cross ourselves and die for the sins we committed. We would have taken all the strokes or lashes given to Jesus ourselves. The crown of thorns that he wore for us would have been placed on our heads and then we would really know that it was a serious thing to have gone to the cross on behalf of others.

Although we do so many things that makes it look like we remember the cross all the time but we still do not have that character that makes it obvious that we really understand what happened on the cross as a result of what we did. Going to the cross was not about Jesus in the first place even though we all agree that he was born to die! The other question we also need to ask is why was he born to die? Maybe that will remind us of the fact that he was a backup plan for the failed righteousness that God gave us in the garden of Eden and He still needed to come because righteous with God is so important and we cannot have a relationship with God without it.

We should not be walking around like in grates who do not know that someone who knew no sin was killed because of us. We have a responsibility to take on the offer of righteousness given to us freely but gotten at the expense of another person’s life. The little things we bug our heads about in church today will not count on the day when we will stand face to face with the one whose life was a ransom for ours and we would need to account for the righteousness he transferred to us.

He went to the cross for us! We didn’t have to go there ourselves! He was crowned with thorns! You didn’t have to take that! Spears went into his sides! Blood gushed out, nails went into his hands and legs yet he was given a bitter wine! What would you lose sight of the fact that someone did all of these for you and you expect or claim to have a relationship with him? Let’s get back to the basics! The reason Jesus went to the cross was because of you and I but if we don’t take the offer we have to face the cross ourselves!
