Keep your eye on the goal │© Fola Daniel Adelesi

Even though we all know that it is important to have goals, we also need to come to terms with the fact that there are so many other people who have goals and can tell you what their goals are line by line and the set dates on the goals but they are not achieving anything. I think it is not enough for you to just memorize the goals and say that you have the goals! Much more than putting the goals in your head and being able to recite them by heart, you have to keep your eyes on the goal. Your goals remain on paper and in your head if you tried to memorize them until you keep the goals in focus.

I think you have to look at this carefully for you to understand. The goals you have in your head remain there. The ones you keep on paper may remain on paper but the goals you keep your eyes on remain in sight all the time. When you wake up every morning you see those goals. When you step out of your house you see your goals. When you step into your office you see your goals. When you look back you see things to learn from that can help you achieve the goals and you see the goals again when you look forward.

All that the professors or public speakers have thought you about having goals or goal setting may not be totally wrong but I think it will not be complete if you do not understand the importance of visualizing the goals always. When you learn to visualize the goals as a result of keeping them in focus, one of the things that will happen is that you will see your own goals from different perspectives. The moment you start seeing your own goals from different perspectives, you will understand the goals better and see what you should do to make things happen. Some of the things you need to do in the first place might look very big and hard but when you continually keep your goals in focus, they come up as something simpler because you will gain more insight and see solutions.

Some people say, ‘out of sight is out of mind.’ Following that, it will not be out of place to say that if your goal is out of sight then it is out of your mind. And you know that there is no way you can achieve success on anything that is not in your mind. On the other hand, Henry Ford said, ‘obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.’ Hey! That means you should never take your eyes off the goal because you will continue to see the wrong things when you do!

Your goals are very important. It is important for you to write them down but more importantly, you have to keep your goals in sight all the time. Never let your goals go off your sight. Keep visualizing and keep working on your goals until you have hit those goals!
