Why there’s an ending and a new beginning | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

God had everything planned out from the beginning of the world because he knew that a number of things may go wrong when you and I are trying to do what we intend to do. Some of the things we want to do may just take a different turn and life may appear to be very frustrating to what God had done was to have a beginning and an ending so that when things go wrong you can have an end to those things and get a chance to start all over on a new slate.

Some people may have messed up their lives and the will still get a chance to end the mess only if they are willing to take advantage of the beginning that God is offering. If there is no end or a new beginning for the things we are doing, we may never get a chance to correct all the mistakes we are making or we just may never have the opportunity to fix some things that have gone bad!

I must honestly admit that in some cases we are getting a new beginning not because we will have the opportunity to fix what has gone wrong but because God want to give us a chance to put everything behind us and just start on a clean slate! Life may have dealt with you seriously and you may not be having a great time at all. Guess what? Having and end is to your advantage because everything that has a beginning has an end!

This is not just another motivational piece thats written just to get you excited! There are days in a week and the reason we can call all those days a week is because each day comes to an end and a new day starts. Beyond that, each week comes to an end and then we have a month but this is not just about having the days roll by so that we can keep counting! The importance of each days newness has to do with us getting another chance to start all over if we didnt get certain things right. If we are getting things right as we do them now, then we have a chance to improve on what we are doing with every new day that comes!

Life would be so frustrating if there was no chance to start all over again! It will be very difficult if we just have to work for very long or unending hours or in an unending day! We have to appreciate the privilege of getting another chance much more than we look at the things we didnt do appropriately! Gods provision for our mistake is to give us another chance by giving us another second, another minute, another hour, another day, another week, another month and another year!

Take a moment right now and just forget about the things you could not fix. Set your focus on the new day ahead of you and the new opportunity ahead of you! Begin to work on what you are going to do with the second chance that God has presented to you and is fast approaching. The time many people have to plan for another opportunity is usually spent on regretting the lost or misused opportunity. Dont fall into that trap, you already have a second chance coming in form of new days, weeks, years and new opportunities. Grab this new chance and appreciate the privilege of an ending and a beginning!

Re-ignite your self-belief | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

In my honest opinion, a man who no longer believes in himself is half dead! This is so true because when we find ourselves in some very difficult situations in life and it look like nothing will ever change in our favour, it is the belief that we have in ourselves that still keep us going and give us some energy to do a few more things. That way, we keep going and going with that little faith in us until we get something done.

Martin Luther King has already said that faith is taking the first step even when you cant see the whole staircase. I also think that for you to take some important steps in life towards where you want to go, you will still believe that you can do it! You will only be taking steps when you have not given up on your capacity to succeed. We have too many people today who are not succeeding not because they can no longer succeed but because they have given up on their capacity to succeed.

One of the things you need to come to is a review of other peoples life and when you do that, you will find out that a number of people have worse situations when compared to you. If you lost your father and you think that a reason to lose everything, you will find that some people have lost both parents and its more difficult for them. When someone says okay I lost both parents then you will find someone who was abandoned at childbirth and probably was almost aborted before childbirth!

In businesses there could be people who have lost a lot of money and while that one is complaining you will find the person who has not only lost money but the business premises is burnt down. The story was told recently by a preacher of a Lagos based house owner. This man had 3 houses until government began to demolish houses. Unfortunately, all his houses are on the same row and the government demolished the 3 houses in one day! Imagine how devastating that would be for this man! At the time the preacher met him, he had sent his family back to the village and was already riding a commercial motorcycle in order to make a living. This conversation ensued between the preacher and the rider because the riders hands were shaking on the bike and the preacher asked him why he had not resigned since he was already getting old. Losing different things can cause you to lose a measure of faith in yourself but what about losing 3 houses all in one day to the same government! Well I think he has taken it in good faith by starting all over from a very humble beginning.

Life may have dealt you some blows but you need to know the importance of getting back on your feet. Defeat is not final and failure is not total. Both defeat and failure are necessary bridges for us to cross on the way to success. Sometimes when life lets you down, all you need to do is to withdraw into a corner, just keep listening to some powerful thoughts by great men and you need to listen intensely. Hear their stories, find out how they have failed or lost something vital. After listening you may then have the courage to read about them. That will boost your confidence in yourself and help you realize that if someone else has failed before then you will not be the first to fail and bounce back to life!

Guess what, your stories of failure are usually very demoralizing only if they end that way but when they take a turn from the failure to a bounce back, the stories become very interesting. A success story is usually not complete without the element of failure so weve got to look past the failure and look forward to the success!

The Conscious use of Influence 4 | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

When I first saw the statement, the gift of a man maketh room for him, I thought it was about the mans ability, talents or special gifting in life. Some years later I saw another version of the Bible that puts it as the bribe so it became clear that that it was a monetary issue. If we put it in the two perspectives skills and money we will find out that both can help us make more conscious use of our influence! Having begun with a premise in the scripture, i would also want to defend the fact that both skills and money can help us make more conscious use of our influence. As for skills, we have heard seest thou a man diligent in his work. He shall stand before kings and not before mean men. And as for money, we have heard money answereth all things.

It is to set the records straight and let you know that my focus here is not about using money to influence what you want to do or need to do. My focus here is to call more attention to the fact that we can influence more people through our gifts, abilities or talents depending on the one you prefer to use. There are some people who have developed their ability to sing and they are using such to write and as well sing inspirational songs that now inspire the nation. There are times when you feel so discouraged and you can just pick up the CDs of such people to listen to their songs and you just find that they are soul lifting and you always want to hear such music. In the contemporary Nigerian setting I would conveniently say that one of such people is Dr. Panam Percy Paul. You may feel that things are not going according to your plan but just then you hear songs like dont give up, its not over.

For some other people, it is their ability to speak that they have developed. The world will never forget the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. we all keep talking how he fought very hard to see that the black race becomes a free race in the United States but we also need to remember that his oratory was a skill he had started using consciously and he ultimately affected the lives of other people. He used oratory to give hope to people and as well give them a voice where they were speechless or too intimidated to talk. How will a segregated black man feel when hearing I have a dream that one day, my four little children will no longer be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character? After telling them about a dream, he told them in another speech that he has been to the mountain top.

Nelson Mandela used the gift of resilience to help South Africa fight apartheid and so many people are walking free today because he lost his freedom for 27 years! You do not have to lose your freedom before you show us the gifts in you! All you need to see from a different perspective is that most of the great men you have heard about were people who consciously used their skills to help build the lives of others and make the society a better place.

Can I ask you to stop for a moment and make you check yourself just to see if you skill or ability or gift is influencing anyone in anyway? Have you ever used your gift to solve a problem for another person? Have you gone beyond one person to solving problems for groups or even societies with your gifts? When people ask you to be a problem solver, I think another way to put it is to ask you to make sure your personal gift or ability is instrumental to another persons comfort or progress in life.

When you learn to conscious use your gift and make it relevant to another person then you will be consciously influencing another person and maybe the nation!

The Conscious use of Influence 3 | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

Shared platforms are some of the things we need to work on in our lives if we are ever going to impact anyone positively or use our influence consciously. There are too many people with platforms they cannot afford to share with others and thats not because it is not possible to share the platforms but because they are either too afraid or too greedy to share their platforms. When we refuse to share platforms with others, we limit the chances of replicating and successes and also make life more difficult for younger generations.

For a number of people, the reason they refuse to share their platforms is because they are afraid they might lose the platforms and they think the people who are getting their platforms might take over from them. If you have developed yourself so well there is no need for you to be afraid about sharing your platforms. One level of success is achieving what you want to achieve in life but a higher level of success is helping others achieve what they intend to achieve by sharing your platforms with them.

If you are on television, why cant you use your show to promote what young people are doing without asking them for money all the time? If you are on radio why cant you give an upcoming or aspiring presenter the chance to rise through your platforms? If you work in a place where you stand a chance of recommending people for jobs and they will be employed I think you are not making good use of your influence if you have not started recommending people right now! Some people are pastors and they will never allow younger pastors get a chance to ever preach on their pulpit. They can allow them take announcements and every other thing that does not really reveal the gifts inside of them but as soon as they start taking those things that reveal their gifts, the pastors become very uncomfortable.

You might be a boss in the office and you are not sharing your platforms with people. You have invitations to attend some conferences and you are the only one who wants to go to all the conferences even when you can afford to send someone else and give them a chance to build themselves as well! Some of the things we will be remembered for in life will include the things that rightfully belong to us but we willingly shared with others to help them attain greatness.

I should say that people need to stop withholding platforms and restricting people who have access to their platforms. I understand that you will want to sustain a culture of excellence and that means you dont bring just anyone on board but you still have to be careful not to throw anyone away. I have already talked about transferring skills to people through a previous series on the conscious use of influence but one other simple way we can transfer skills is to share platforms with people. Some people just need the platforms and they will be ready to explode with all the talents theyve got.

From today, look for deliberate ways to help and share platforms with younger people. Use what you have to help others build what they are doing or promote what they are doing. Send in a recommendation for a younger person and gift that person a great start in life. That will be a conscious use of your influence!

I think that the culture and tradition that we have neglected in a great way addresses how we should consciously use influence on our peers and on the younger generation. In those days, traditions and cultures or professions were handed down from one generation to another generation. It was so profound that a particular family was known for a kind of job and that job also determined what name they bore from one generation to the other. If you come down to the South Western part of Nigeria which comprises the Yoruba people, you would hear names like Ayan , Ode , Ogun ,,,

If anyones name started with Ayan (which would sound as dodo in musical notes), you would easily say that the person is from a family of drummers. If it was about 20 to 30 years ago, you would rightly presume that the person can beat a certain type of drum very well. This presumption will only be based on the fact that fathers would teach their sons whatever they were capable of doing and sons would take it up as a profession. When the sons begin to procreate they would also teach their grownups how to do what their fathers taught them. That way, the family did not only have a culture and tradition to hand down to another generation, it also had a profession to hand down to the next generation.

When you hear the name of a family beginning with Ode (which in musical notes would sound like re re) then you can safely say that it was a family of hunters. Way back in the days of heavy tradition and culture, these were the people who primarily hunted for a living and as well protected the people in the community. They hunted with dogs and with time brought in their young men to learn how to hunt and as well brush up shooting skills either with the gun or catapults as the situation may demand.

It is very obvious that this is no longer in place today and one way it is affecting us is that we are no longer consciously affecting the lives of other people around us or even our children by transferring some of our skills to them. Im not necessarily saying that children in the twenty first century have to do exactly what their parents are doing but I need to draw home the point that there was a conscious effort on the part of people in those days to train others how to do exactly what they were able to do.

I strongly believe that there is no such thing as success where it cannot be replicated especially when given the chance to do it. There are different levels of success and one of them is to grow up to that level where you can practically transfer your skills to younger people. Theres no glory in the fact that you can do something and you are the only one that can do it! If you continue that way you will never be able to build a successful company because a part of the success in any company is not in just thinking about what next to do but in knowing what has always been done to keep the company running.

Either as a company or as an individual, it is very important for you to influence someone around you through transfer of acquired skills. The reason we still have doctors today is because some previous doctors transferred their skills to younger ones. We still have pilots to fly planes today because the older pilots transferred the flight skills to new pilots.

If you look back in 5 to 10 years or more and you cannot point to anyone whose skills have been brushed up or has learnt a new skill through you then you are not conscious of your potential influence! Influence someone today by transferring skills.

The word influence has some synonyms including effect, inspiration, impact, stimulus, encouragement, guidance, power and sway. I got interested in the word sway and I began to search for more words so I found out that other words for sway- a synonym for influence are power, rule, control, authority and dominance. From all of this, you may want to agree that influence also means power, authority, control, rule and dominance.

Having gotten those words as the pacesetters, it may now be clear to you if I say that some people do not know the level of authority or the amount of power that they have over others and do not use it consciously. Do you know the level of authority you have over others? Are you aware of how your influence power, authority, dominance, control, sway, inspiration, impact and encouragement affect the lives of other people?

The subject of influence is not new to many but the impact of a discussion on influence is often underrated because we live everyday of our lives influencing people yet we forget that we do it all the time. A few peoples lives are built on the fact that some men and women are conscious of their influence and they affect the lives of younger people positively. Unfortunately, many other people do not realize the weight of their influence and so do not know how much of negative influence they have on others.

It is important for us all to begin to check our level of influence because I do not believe that there is anyone who does not have some measure of influence. The only thing is that we all use our influence at different levels and for different purposes.

Has it ever occurred to you that someone is watching the way you do things and will probably do it exactly the way you are doing it without asking questions? You may not know that there are people who believe so much in you and will do everything you say because they think it must be the standard since you do it that way! For of the people who will look up to you and attempt to take clues from you will be old enough to take decisions for themselves but other may be too young to take decisions!

We sometimes talk about abuse of power but I think that one of the reasons for abuse of power is either because people do not know how much power they have or they have so much power that the people following them are not aware of. It is the same thing when it comes to influence. Many of us are abusing the influence that we have because we do not know that our influence is so powerful and can build or destroy the lives of some other people. Interestingly, some people are aware of the level of influence that they have but they just dont care who it affects or who it does not affect.

There are people who look up to us for direction in life even if they dont come directly to us. We stand a chance of leading them in the right path or leading them in the path of destruction simple by living our lives the way we want to. I think we need to live on daily basis with a question in our minds. That question should be, how does my action influence people knowingly or unknowingly and positively or negatively?

We must live with the consciousness of our influence if we will ever live a meaningful life. Who are you influencing and how are you influencing them?

The Four Generations | Book review by Fola Daniel Adelesi

Book Details

Book Title: The Four Generations

Author: Ayokunle Adeleye

Publisher: First published by Author House UK Publishers
University Press Plc.

Copyright:Ayokunle Adeleye

Category:Inspirational

Theme

Strengths, Weaknesses and personality or temper come into play as the author makes a deliberate effort to help us understand ourselves. These themes run conspicuously from the beginning of the book to the end even as the author adopts the explanatory, descriptive and conversational style. The subject matter is so relevant to the reader in that it touches on our actions either as we think we can control them or as we think we cannot control them and we seek descriptions for the actions we claim we cannot explain. I dare say that this subject matter will always give any new book a place on the shelves even if they are written centuries away from today.
The author has successfully presented different characters in our world to us. As he introduces the different characters, he also took time to focus for a while in presenting the strengths and weaknesses without making one character look like the stronger or the weaker character.
Under strength, he presented the Choleric character as the naturally driven goal getter and the Sanguine as the natural orator. One thing he was quick to do was to have immediately told us how the Choleric can be too aggressive and how the Sanguine can be an attention seeker. There are a few other characters but I have to be careful because my job as a reviewer is not to give away the story of the author when you have not even read the book. I only need to lead you into the story.

Content

The book opened up the book by wooing the readers with two words that have always been the heart desire of any human being. He began by talking about acceptance and perfection which were presented as scarce commodities that the readers need. Just as he finished with that presentation of the desire for understanding, acceptance and perfection he was also quick to come in as the man with the solution to those desires. The suggested solutions were presented as four different characters which explains why you have the title The Four generations.
Although in my opinion, I would not have regarded these characters as four generations because we live together in the same time and clash with one another consistently because we do not have a clear understanding of each others differences. One of the things that the content of the book attempts to do is to give us a picture of who we are, who the other person is, why we do the things we do and why we need to take that other person the way he or she is.
Popular authors like Tim Lahaye in his book, Why you act the way you do have referred to these characters as temperaments. The Oxford dictionary defines temperament as a person’s nature with regard to the effect it has on their behaviour. Consequently, what Ayokunle has tried to do in this book is to help you understand your nature and to know why you may have issues being accepted by one person or the other.
In an academic review, I would have taken a step further to discuss the content but I need to ensure that I do not drop the economic potential of the book simply because I want to do a good job at reviewing. That would leave the audience very satisfied about the content of the book but the objective of a book launch or the purpose of writing the book would have been defeated.
However, I need to quickly say that Ayokunle did an amazing job at searching the Bible, bringing our different characters that fit into the charcaters being discussed in the book and presents them to us in a new light. With this effort, if you have been reading the Bible or hearing sermons and you think Bible characters like David, Saul or Peter and Paul have some traits that are also in you, you will see these characters in different perspectives and also understand yourself better.

Styles

Explanation The author began the discussion in an attempt to explain the terms Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholy and Phlegmatic. It was in the course of the explanation that we found the major themes of the book on strength, weaknesses and character.

Contrast and Comparison in the bid to help us understand the characters better, Ayokunle began to introduce Bible characters for ex-ray. He quoted scriptures that talk about these charcaters and as well let us in on the personality of these Bible charcaters. For a long time, we have read the Bible from the perspective of spiritual lessons from God but I think we will see, though this book, another important lesson God is trying to show us in the personalities of those Bible charcaters that we read about.

Suspense I think it is safe to say that Ayokunle left some elements of suspense in the book. When you start reading about other characters and you think you do not have their weaknesses, just then you will find the pages that talk about your own weaknesses. More importantly, he raised several questions, pretends as if he wants to answer them but somewhere along the line leaves the readers to answer the questions.

Observations

I disagree with Ayokunle who in his preface, had said that the theory does not apply to everybody. My premises include the fact that everybody has a nature and consequently a behaviour. Some people are so reserved and it may therefore be difficult to fix them into some characters but it does not mean that they do not fit into a type of temperaments.

I also need to quickly add that since Ayokunle agrees that human beings are so complex, it will then be safe to say, from my angle, that the complexity of human beings proves to us that we are not absolutely one type of character. We have mood swings, learn new habits and change consistently so that may explain why it is difficult to fix some people into a type of character.

In referencing, it is my opinion that the scripture quotations were so much not because of the number of scriptures quoted but for the portion lifted directly from the scripture. This is so because there is a standard acceptable limit to quotation from previously published works and its usually one or two paragraphs.

General Appraisal

I would like to prepare the minds of all readers for an intellectually stimulating exercise and to let you in on the fact that this book will leave you more conscious of yourself than you were before now. It gives you a contextual appraisal of Bible characters in the light of strengths and weaknesses and not just as the spiritual super heroes whose names have made it into, arguably, the most famous book in the world. It is a masterpiece and a thorough work of searching and searching.

Suggestion

1.I am of the opinion that you should allow the people see a link among the charcaters so that they do not think they can only be a part of just one type of character.

2.When the subject matter of a book is about strengths and weaknesses, I think the book should also proffer solutions regarding how to tame the strength and how to work on the weaknesses.

3.My final suggestion is that you may need to review how the book was concluded. What you could have done was to have another chapter that discusses all the characters briefly and just as you have created a prologue through your preface, you can create an epilogue to relieve the readers of the tension that comes with knowing their new weaknesses.

Ayokunle has done a great job, Writing is not a cheap thing to do especially in a world where we dont have too many readers. He needs to be encouraged and he deserves all the support you can offer.

Thank you for your time.

The Church and National Development 6 |© Fola Daniel Adelesi

Today’s church does not really see itself as one body with a simple objective to win soul to a single kingdom and for that reason it continues to fight itself and has no time for nation building. We have heard from our Lord, Saviour and brother who prayed earnestly saying, that they may be one! How can we as a church build a nation when what we focus on is the fact that one person belongs to one denomination and this other person does not like this denomination?

Is it possible for us to ever achieve anything together when we do not even have a common ground for agreement? We all call the name of Jesus and we all sing to the name of Jesus but we do not teach the same thing in the name of Jesus so it is hard for us to even fight a common cause of nation building in the name of Jesus!

When we take a look at the Bible that we all seem to be preaching from, Nehemiah was able to embark on a nation building project by leaving his comfort and mobilizing his people to focus on the work to be done. When distractions came from the enemy he did not abandon the work to face the enemy. He came up with a strategy to face the work and fight the enemy so everybody who was working with him on rebuilding the nation had a working tool and at the same time a fighting tool. Its easy for us to see Samballat and Tobiah as the stumbling blocks for Nehemiah that he finally overcame having got the approval of the King and going by the strategy he had.

A good look at our nation today will reveal the fact that we are in the same situation as Nehemiah but we are not following his approach to nation building and cannot get the kind of results that he got. He was in the kings palace and he left to build a nation. Many of us do not want to leave our comfort zones because you will even hear Christians saying, who wants to die for Nigeria? You will just die in vain and no one remembers you! when we even have a common cause to follow, we also become quick to attack anyone who takes the lead and offers willing to help follow through with a cause. We now see everyone as selfish and ambitious people even when we have not put a check on their intentions!

From time to time you will hear about a pastor fighting another pastor over one member leaving to the other pastors church. The next time you will be in a meeting you might just hear about a pastor who is angry with another pastor because he has asked an instrumentalist to come over to the new church and is willing to pay if this instrumentalist is willing to move. I have not said that these things are not in any way things that call for concern but Im of the opinion that we have more serious issues on our hands!

The devil has kept the church too busy fighting one another and we have forgotten that Jesus said, go ye into the nations it is time for us to take responsibility for what is happening in our nation today and forget the petty things we focus on. Too many churches individuals who believe in and follow Jesus have taken their focus away from helping others to find the meaningful life that we are empowered to transfer to others. We now talk about one person stealing congregation from others!

Lets grow up as a church. We must put petty things behind us. Its time to start working with the mind that nation building is an all important task that is far more important than issues within the local church. God will question us as a church, I believe, about the nations he put us in if we do not do what he empowered us to do!

When Christians, churches and para-church organizations get on the media, they celebrate and make a big noise out of it but they have forgotten that some other people own the media and determine the content of the media! If we put all the godly or religious programmes on the media together, how much time do they amount to compared to how much time the media has left to put the wrong things in the minds of the people especially the young ones!

Me may be making so much noise about the depth of moral decadence in our country today but we must see the role that the media is playing in increasing the vices we are currently experiencing! When you turn the television you will have more of musical videos with girls dancing either half naked or completely naked. If you check a few international stations that are now easily accessible because of cable television, you will not need to go far before you see nudity everywhere. This is getting into the minds of too many people and what the people take in is what they will produce. They cannot possibly bring out anything different from what they have been consuming all the time and they spend hours sitting in front of these stations from day to day.

Its time for us to take our place as nation builders and not religious organizations. When we keep working as religious organizations, we will only continue to get the 30 minutes we are getting on radio and television while the rest of the world has a chance to hijack more than 20 hours of the day to play jargons yet we give testimonies about our programmes being on air. I am not against being grateful for the small beginnings but we need to see the bigger pictures!

Why can Chirstians run television stations with the positive mindset to inspire people and teach them strategy or innovation and productivity? Please note that this is not about building television stations to just have a preaching platform but I am talking about building media houses to raise a new breed of youths and leaders. Why cant we have a station where we teach leadership, business and personal effectiveness all through the day such that any illiterate watching or listening to those stations will be able to lead and as well run business effectively?

If we are truly going to take our place as nation builders, we will have to work on dominating the media content in our country. Until we begin to dominate the media content, our impact will still be limited! How many people come into our weekly meetings or how many people come for our special programmes? How many people can we drive to our websites for positive content? Lets take our minds off the small things. Many thanks to the likes of Trinity Broadcasting Network, Daystar Television and Inspiration Television but we need a lot more than we currently have. Remember, its not just about having the platforms so that we can preach but it is important to note that if we own the media, we will not play most of those videos that negatively influence the minds of the views or those songs that suggest something negative to listeners.

Its time to look beyond 30 minutes on radio and television because the world is taking the rest of the 23 hours 30 minutes of the day!

What will be the essence of the church when the prosperity of the church does not reflect on the societies that will live in? Did the Bible from which we take our lessons not say, let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven?

Im a strong believer in the fact that the church must be involved in national development not by shouting on the pulpit at politicians but by rolling their sleeves and getting their hands dirty to prove the point! Some of our churches are on very terrible roads and we go in there to worship every Sunday. One of the things I think we can do in order to gain more influence in our time and with the government is to take up some responsibilities especially where the government is failing and prove to them that we understand the meaning of running a kingdom as priests and kings.

I am not going to get into a debate as to who should really fix the roads! I just think that the church does not lose anything by fixing some of the roads in the towns and cities where we live. Let us also consider that some of these roads are used primarily by those people who come in to make the congregation on Sundays. Some others may say they do not have the money to fix roads leading to their church but I think they still can afford to do something. What about providing water for the people in your community?

There could be some places where dirt litter the road to the church or some other public places. There could just be a place that might even be far from the church but the church can organize its members to get involved in the cleanup exercise of the place. When we begin to do things like this then we will realize that our influence will grow bigger in some places and even faster than we can imagine. I am of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in a church fixing the street lights for a community. When I was an undergraduate studying mass communication, there was a young man who lived in the host community of our school and he decided to open a bar for young people to come in and drink at any time. He became so popular and made so much money from the business. After a while, the young man invited a company to come and install street lights on the street where is open bar was located. They installed the lights a few meters before and after his bar so the whole place was lit up and he began to do a few more things in the society.

I was touched that an unbeliever could think so well about using the money from his business to do something extra for the society. Whenever the lights came on they were powered by his generating set and I was wondering why churches cannot set this kind of examples for the community! We must come to terms with the fact that our major influence will not come from how many converts we have in the church who are spread all over the city! Our influence will come from winning the hearts of on lookers and unbelievers by going to extra mile to accommodate them as well in the benefits we offer to the society.

The church, in my opinion, must get involved, using its resources, in national development and one of the things they can commit to is providing some facilities for the people in their community.
