Have you seen a truly gifted singer basking in poverty? Do you know of any inspiring public speaker who keeps people on their feet after speeches but struggles to keep peanuts in his bank accounts? I guess you would have seen an amazing preacher but with very little to show for the hours invested in studying and researching! What about that child with some special gifts in the house of some parents who cannot afford to send him to school? With all of these pictures, I can’t but ask, ‘why are talented people frustrated?’

I have seen and have met with a number of talented people whose gifts really need no advertisement for the world to know that they are very good but these same people are also very frustrated! A lot of them wonder why things are not working and why people will not just recognize them for their gifts. Some people get out with a lot of excitement only to realize that you are in a world where people don’t just throw their doors open because you have some talents in you!

I remember starting out a few years back and so many people around me did not hesitate to acknowledge the talents in me and how well I was going about the things I had chosen to do in life. I got some accolades from a few people and I have noticed that a lot of talented people get so many accolades from people but the other side is that they just might be surrounded by frustrated and helpless people as well?

Have you ever been in a room with someone is supposedly a very successful person at what he or she does only for you to realize that you can do a lot better than what that person is doing? Sometimes you may have even started out on a professional ground with your talents but you always see people who don’t seem as talented as you are but they appear to be more productive in every way. I should quickly say that you must never make the mistake of envying that other person who seems more successful unnecessarily! Wisdom demands that you take such people as friends in order to find out what they are doing so well that you may not be doing so well apart from just having the talent!

I have discovered a few things and have also begun to work out modalities to ensure that I am never frustrated as a result of my talents! I have also been in a situation where I really like to help some helpless but talented people and I just could not help at that moment so I would like to talk about some of the things I found out which talented people can make use of in order to reduce or completely eradicate their frustrations.

Some of the things you have to deal with as a talented person are:
1. Your talent has a chance to open doors to you but it will never be automatic.
2. Every talented person will always go through that phase when you are not recognized!
3. When you stay faithful to your talent (as a faithful wife sticks to her husband) then your talent will yield the dividend of your faithfulness for you!

There are a number of secrets I will like to share but it will be one step at a time and I urge you to follow through this line of thoughts as I present them to you from the pot of wisdom.

I recognize and duly affirm that the talent in you was not given to you in order to frustrate you. That talent in you is a seed planted by your creator. The intention when the seed of talent was planted in you was that:
1. You will discover the talent,
2. Develop the talent,
3. Maximise the talent,
4. Then the talent will pay you back by putting food on your table and also giving you a chance to be a blessing to other people around you!

Remember, your talent was no meant to frustrate you so, stick with it!

It’s amazing that the President of over 160 million people in a nation that’s already angered by the deceit of its leaders can wake up and say that it’s promises upon which negotiations were made for the removal of oil subsidy can no longer be fulfilled!

Towards the end of the year 2011 when the agitation for removal of subsidy by the federal government became a priority in the press, I wrote a piece called ‘Subsidy, Subsi-deal or Subsi-trick’ and did raise the issue of government’s inability to communicate effectively with its citizens and the vital issue of trust between the people and the government. The President of the nation obvious knows that he was dealing with the issue of trust with the government when the debate of over subsidy began and he tried to reassure the people that trust was not going to be an issue.

While the attempt to convince the citizens was going on, Pastor Tunde Bakare who has been a major opposition voice over the years asked questions with the expectations that Nigerians will think and not make the mistake of trusting the government again. He reminded Nigerians that subsidy was removed from diesel with the promise to build refineries but they never did. Pastor Bakare also reminded Nigerians that subsidy was removed from kerosene with the promise that refineries was going to be built but none was built and did say that the person who had been appoint to head the government’s committee on subsidy reinvestment was only being deceived. For some divide of the country, it appeared as if the President has sincere motives but was working with people that cannot be trust but for the other divide, the opinion was that Pastor Bakare was just looking for cheap popularity.

I did not start out this piece to justify either President Jonathan or Pastor Bakare but to point out some salient issues and it was really important to build a premise on the previous scenes we have had in the country especially at the beginning of this year. The issues I am surprised about and as well looking at are:
1. The President from the outset knows that the people do not trust the government
2. You (Mr. President) tried persuading the people to trust the government and that the funds withdrawn would be used judiciously.
3. Just few weeks after the promises you (Mr. President) are now saying it is no longer possible!
4. What happens to the part of the money that you (Mr. President) have now withdrawn?
5. Did the people who died die in vain?
6. What were you (Mr. President) thinking when you came on national television to make promises in front of the entire world?
7. Who are the people counseling you (Mr. President)?
8. What responsibilities are you taking if you expect Nigerians to believe that your decisions are products of circumstances?
9. What we expect from a president is one who thinks through before talking in front of the nation.
10. Our president must recognize that building trust with the people is an important process in national building because people with never cooperate with the leaders that they cannot trust.

I really don’t know how much longer Nigerians can tolerate the insincerity of the government but when the government refuses to speak and stand by its word, a revolution is imminent!

One of the biggest struggles of men on the land of the living is the foolish attempt to redesign their destinies by pursuing the destinies of others, trying to meet their goals and attempting to outshine others in the activities that will lead those other people to their ordained destination. Many do not seem to realize that they had to be born because they have a different assignment to carry out in life!

Don’t you realize that you are struggling a lot for some of the things that you are not supposed to be struggling for? Why do you think that you really needed to go out of your way to get that material thing that your colleague in the office just got only for the thing to become useless to you!

If you understand what destiny is then you will come to terms with the fact that your destiny has already been designed by God so you’ll have no need to compete with any man about it! Things can be a lot easier when you just follow what God says you should do and not what men expect you to do!

I have found out one big difference between God and man. If you keep this difference in your mind always then you will have fewer reasons to struggle in life! When a man makes you do something either through advice or coercion and it turns out to be awful, the man will back off, probably deny you and tell you that you were the one who took the steps while he just advised you! If God tells you to do something, you can be so sure he will never back off at any point in time because He’s so sure of what He has asked you to do. Before He tells you to do something he will be able to determine where it will end and once you go strictly by what He says, He will always stand by you!

When you realize that only God knows how things will turn out and he will not deny you for doing what he told you to do, then you will never for the dictates of a man who can tell you something in a minute and deny you the next minute! How exactly have we been trying to redesign our lives? Well, a few things are running through my mind and some of them are:

- Doing things the way others think you should do them.

- Buying things simply because someone has bought it and it must not be heard off that you don’t have it even when you do not need it.

- Going to places just to be seen.

- Altering all your plans because of the disapproval of others.

- Trying very hard to always beat the records of people around – this means you are now beginning to pursue the goals they are pursuing even when you do not have the same destination in life.

- Struggling to main the same social standard that others have in the community.

Your life is completely different from the life of those people around you! You had to be born because you have a different assignment and you should not be doing exactly what every other person is doing! We need to accept the fact that freedom is in doing what you truly believe you should be doing instead of doing something so that nobody will crucify you or see you as a non-conformist!`

I don’t think it will be hard for us to convince anyone that we love them only if we will be more tolerant and let them see how much of their imperfection or inadequacies that we are tolerating!

Love is on the lips of everyone and more people are getting married every day! More musicians are writing love songs and its quick for listeners to grab, memorize and then sing along! The movie industries in different countries are producing more movies with stories on love and authors are not relenting on writing love stories! Ironically, as we talk more about love and hardly let it off our lips, more people are dying on daily basis as a result of the intolerance that we have for one another!

Day in day out we hear more horrible stories of husbands killing their wives, neighbours killing neighbours, people of different religious views killing one another, killings over tribal differences, people being killed for ritual purposes either to make money or to win elections the list goes on about the very funny reasons we cannot tolerate each and live in harmony!

We cannot claim to love and not have tolerance because to love someone does not mean that you love the person for being perfect! If we only love people because they are good or they appear to be perfect then we are still deceiving ourselves. A lot of young people fall in love under the delusion of finding the perfect match for them! Some of them only get into marriage before realizing that the personal they claim to love is someone they have to tolerate for the rest of their lives!

It is important to attempt to redefine what it means to tolerate other people. In most cases we say we are tolerating someone because we have nowhere to put them and dont know what to do with them. When we review every called tolerance then we will find out that it is really about appreciating people the way they are, help them through love to become better where it is possible and never judge them for being themselves!

Many of us are being intolerant by setting very high expectations for people around us or our spouses and expecting them to exceed our own expectations when we truly have our own issues to deal with. Its practically impossible to define love without the all-inclusive nature of tolerance but theoretically possible. Love is real when we find out things we didnt know about some people and the things that have been revealed do not change the fact that we love them! Love is true when we will not treat people based on their colours, social status, educational backgrounds or material possessions. I can say that love is amazing when we just treat people as human beings who are imperfect but need to be genuinely loved.

More issues have been created in our world today because of the intolerance we have for the people that we ought to love. When we love people genuinely we end up helping them to grow and when we dont, we give them more things to worry about because they now have to deal with our rejection! In the bid for some people to deal with our rejection, they begin to recede into guilt and regrets about what they could have done but did not do to be on the same social pedestal with us!

Tolerance is an integral part of love and when we claim to love, we must let our love be a reflection of tolerance because someone somewhere has also been tolerating us!

If half of the people who are in a love relationship are truly humble, they would be having half of the problems they are having right now and that means they have less things to worry about. One of the things we need to pay attention to in a relationship is the fact that the people we are in love with will say some of the things that no other person can say to us. They may have the intelligence to say them nicely and give them a soft landing and in some cases, they just may run out of patience to sugar coat what needs to be said and lay it bare!

We sometimes hear some things from our spouses that we do not like not because they are not true but because we do not like the way they were presented. Some people say, how can you talk to me like that? Just shut up! Is it because I brought myself so low? Relationships will teach us true humility only when we have gotten close to some people and they see beyond all the make-ups that others see in the public. If the people who are watching us from a distance cannot come close enough to tell us the truth about issues, we are going to need the people who are the closest around us to be able to do that. If your relationship cannot break your ego and open issues to you, Im of the opinion that you should not be in that relationship because it means one person is not seeing well enough to know what to tell you or both of you are just pretenders!

If we check some of the issues in our relationships we will realize that they started when we began to have problems with the way someone said something to us or how someone acted towards us. A lot of people get into a relationship without realizing what they have to give up and when they get into it, they begin to demand respect from the other person and also state how they should be addressed or how they should be treated! You must understand that when you are truly ready to get into a relationship, your proof of readiness will be your willingness to give up your ego!

You can afford to put your ego in the face of some people who are not your close associates and also try to prove something to them about your social status but you cant do that with your spouse! Sometimes, if you are a business man, every other person may not be able to look into your eyes and tell you that some of your business decisions are terrible and will get you into a mess but your spouse must be able to tell you without fearing anything! If you are a public figure with a lot of acting up to do in front of the cameras so that you can create and impression, you have to be humble enough for your spouse to talk to you about issues not known to the public or even known to them but shielded by your fame!

We should not let what we are get in the way of being who we should be with our spouses! If you are Mr. President of a country, you have to acknowledge that you are first a husband or a wife at home and must allow truth to be said in probably the crudest manner by the only person who can say it that way to you! If you get into a fight every time your spouse is trying to tell you something, you need to check your ego and I must say as well that whatever needs to be said should not be said anyhow! Learn that there is a way to say things, there is when to say certain things and there is how to also say those things. When you have to say or have to listen, dont let your ego get in the way of your love!

We all claim to love God but the word of the God that we claim to love says we cant possibly love the one we don’t see when we cant even express sincere love to the ones that we can see! Its amazing how you see someone today and all your body chemistry is totally upset but 3 months down the line you never want to see the same person again!

In some relationships, the slightest provocations are good enough reasons to want to call it quits and just go in different directions but we need to know that if we truly mean the love we have been professing then that love can withstand situations! In my relationship, a few things happen and I do not feel happy with my spouse at that moment but one of the things I have come to work with is a policy that helps me make sure no issue extends beyond 24 hours. Sometimes that can be tough for me because it may mean I have to make moves for reconciliation when I am not even wrong or when I think I am not wrong but the bigger picture is about sustaining the relationship!

We need to go past being in a relationship when everything goes well and we have enough to drink, eat and as well laugh about! What about the times when there will be nothing to eat or drink! What about the time when there will be nothing to laugh about but series of issues to resolve! I have heard over and over again that there are no good sailors who have not had a taste of storms! Your relationship can only be said to be a good one when it has gone through tests and you have both looked past your differences.

One of the reasons we cannot get great commitments to relationships today, especially marriage, is because we never dealt with many of the issues we were supposed to have dealt with before marriage! If you keep breaking your relationships then you need to prepare yourself for ruin because you will also keep breaking your marriage! Ive been in some situations where I want to call off a relationship but I began to think and did ask, If I break this relationship now because of this issue, will I also break a marriage just like that when the same issue comes up.

Many of us keep saying its the other person in the relationship when we actually have a lot of work to do on ourselves. The other person may have been wrong going by what happened but if we are saying its over then we have not built our tolerance level!

A man who has been in 8 marriages was asked what he now thinks of all the marriages and his response was fantastic! He said, I should have made the first one work! Wow! We should not just keep calling off every relationship and jumping into another one! Except for abusive and violent relationships which to me are very ridiculous, the beauty of any love affair is the commitment to make it work and thats really a duty which should take a higher priority compared to just having fun in the relationship!

Love is not love only when it is sweet and the going is good. I think love is really love when the situation can tear you apart but you guys arent going anywhere! From now on, dont talk about how it cant work anymore! Be humble enough to make it work through commitment in the good and bad times!

Over 1000 jobs to be lost in one day! | Fola Daniel Adelesi

By 5PM, on 31st of January 2012, just about 48 hours from the time I decided to write this article, over 1000 people in one of the nations commercial banks would have lost their jobs! Some of them are mothers who have children that need to go to school and others are fathers who have a family to take care off. A few of them are single men and women who are looking forward to starting a home by the time they are able to raise enough money to do. Unfortunately, when they wake up on first of February 2012, some will wake up to a renewed desperation for survival. Handkerchiefs will not be enough to soak the tears of the day and we might be seeing a mixed feeling of anger and hopeless.

The fate of these people was decided just last week following the acquisition of the bank by another bank with a stronger capital base. The bank that has now acquired another banks thinks there are too many staff to deal with and they need to cut down in every area, especially human resources. The next thing we should expect is that recruiting firms will be bombarded with resumes too numerous for even government agencies to absorb.

I feel for these people and I also think that this event will break and make some people. I want to presume that there are some of them who have been planning to start some kind of business before now. I guess they will take the bold step now that their jobs are gone!

In all of these I want to ask a few questions in order to help us think!

1.When you take up a new job, do you create an exit strategy?

2.Do you have an investment plan such that if you are fired unexpectedly you will have something to fall back on?

3.What other skills do you have for which you can be paid if you lose your current job?

4.Can you even fit into any other organization because some people get some jobs by virtue of their family members in positions and they never bother about skill acquisition!

5.Do you remember that the job you have been given is not in your fathers company and can never be transferred to you? It will only be transferred to the children of the people that you work for! If you are not careful, you will serve the parents long enough till their children are ready to take over and you will still be serving their children!

6.My last question for now is when are you going to build businesses that you can transfer to your children?

We cannot afford to face life in one direction because life is multifaceted and it has several surprises for at different points. Are you truly ready for life!

If you have just been fired and you are reading this, get up again but this time, I suggest you think about a business you can do and also be an employer of labour. I should expect that you can get angry enough to start a business and probably be able to hire the children of those who are firing you today!

The reason I look smart is because I have a greater force working behind the scene and making things happen for me! I remember the Bible saying that you will hear a voice saying to you this is the way, walk in it. The Holy Spirit has better business strategies that you can work with to outsmart any business competition with little or no effort only if you understand and relate with Him.

It’s so amazing to know that there is hardly anything you want to do that the Holy Spirit cannot help you with! You may choose not to ask His help when you are starting out but somewhere along the line you just realize that you are stuck even though it would have been a lot easier if you sought his help from the beginning!

Life is going to be very hard, miserable and confusing but that’s strictly for those who do not have the Spirit of God that knows the mind of God who knows the mind of everyone! When you want to do business and you allow the Holy Spirit to strategize with you or for you in the business, there is no way you can fail because it is impossible for the Holy Spirit to fail. I once heard the story of John D. Rockefeller whose conglomerate was supposed to insure the Titanic ship. As a Christian, he hesitated for a while and consulted God about the deal. He was told not to insure the ship so he backed out of the deal which appeared so promising. When the ship sank on the sea, it was said that the insurance deal which appeared very promising would have ruined his entire business!

You can hear one instruction and the application of that instruction will be a multinational company. One instruction can double your turnover and refusing the instruction can also erase your company name from the list of viable companies. To operate in this realm we must sincerely admit that our intellects are not good enough to operate at the level that God would want us to operate. He’s always got a better idea coupled with the fact that He knows the end from the beginning in whatever needs to be done!

When you have an idea you begin to hope it works out well but when it is from the Holy Spirit and he’s involved in all the execution or implementation then you are not talking about trial and error! You just know what to do and knowing what to do places you on better platforms!
People may not know the next thing to do in a situation or see a business opportunity ahead but when you have the Holy Spirit as your master strategist you can’t possibly be in the dark about what to do next. He can give you an idea and the next day it will turn out to be an idea that the entire nation needs! The implication is that the nation will come running after you since you can produce what they need. You don’t have to struggle to get customers because you just need to remember that God has the hearts of Kings in His hands and can turn it to wherever he wants. I, in my business and a number of other things, just rely on letting the Holy Spirit turn the hearts of people towards the gifts He has placed in my hands! It works like magic!

I don’t know who your strategist is but before you reach a dead end, turn to the Holy Spirit for help and you will never be disappointed.

If you have no relationship with Jesus it just will not make any sense asking for Holy Spirit’s help. Acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Saviour right now. Ask him to come into your life and take charge. Tell him you will let him dictate the pace of your life from now on then tell him to send you the Holy Spirit as He promised. Believe me, when the Holy Spirit comes and you consult him, your work life will become unique!

I don’t know how smart your boss is but I know your boss is not as smart as the Holy Spirit! This has come to my mind in order to call the attention of a number of people who seem to be dealing with difficult bosses to this all important issue of relating with the Holy Spirit.

So many people want to perform in their places of work but they just keep meeting the brick walls strategically placed there by their ‘difficult bosses.’ You may know that you are very good at what you do but you just keep getting complaints or condemnation no matter how hard you try. There is little or no mention of what you are doing correctly but when you do something wrong there’s a lot noise! What you have done correctly may outweigh the things you have not done correctly but you don’t just get any reward for doing things right.

For some people, it’s so bad that they just can’t look up to their bosses in anyway. All the motivation they have is gone and they are thinking about quitting. The moment you also start thinking about quitting you then remember that there are doezens of people on the street who do not have a job and there’s no way you can meet your needs without the job. For the fear of being jobless, you often decide to stay on the job and keep tolerating the intellectual intimidation or harassment of your boss.

All I need to say is that you’ve had enough of the intimidation from your boss. Do you ever ask the Holy Spirit to help you when you set of for work? Have you ever thought about the fact you need the Holy Spirit more than you ever struggle to please your boss? In the bid to please your boss you lose your sleep or lose your peace because you have all done your very best and it’s still not appreciated! When you keep working on doing your best, you are simply struggling at a human capacity level!

Step up your game and be ahead of your boss by asking the Holy Spirit for help. You and I know that when you do what God tells you to do, no one can fault you! When anyone tries it, the person is looking for trouble! Stop struggling to please whoever it is that you work for and get help from the ultimate source of wisdom who can make brainees out of dummies!

If you have no relationship with Jesus it just will not make any sense asking for Holy Spirit’s help. Acknowledge Jesus as your Lord and Saviour right now. Never lay your hands on the things that your mind has not approved! Never mind the things that your hands also detest! I think that one of the best counsels anyone can get is to make sure that what you are doing has some kind of co-ordination between the mind and the hands.

The reason it is important for you to ensure the harmony or the co-ordination between the mind and the hands before you do anything is that it is easy for you to start something but you will be drained of all mental and emotional energy if your mind is not in it. When you also start something that your hands are not willing to do, it will only be a matter of time before your lazy hands or unwilling hands in that regard begin to send some clear signals to your mind.

This is a time when you should never drain yourself. If you have to do anything you should be sure it is not what you are going to complain about. The author of the book, Gifted Hands, Dr. Ben Carson talked about the big breaks in medicine and how he had successfully separated some twins in company of other doctors. In the stories that he has written about these successful surgeries, one of the things I can pick as a pointer to success is the harmony or co-ordination between the mind and the hands. There were a number of times in the surgery room, according to his account, that he used more of his mind to do the job and his hands just followed the mind!

I know someone will say but you are always expected to use your mind! What else would he have used if not the mind? As much as that sounds very true I can say that we sometimes do not know that we are working against ourselves when we do not really have the desire to do something but our hands are on those things just because they are things we must do.

There are times you will set out to do something and you will just notice that you seem to be doing a lot but nothing seems to be making sense at all and nothing seems to be working in the situation that you have found yourself in. I think these is because you have a disconnect between the mind and the hands. We can go on and on in talking about setting goals and writing plans and ensuring a productive use of your time. If you do not know about the proper co-ordination between your mind and your hands on the things you have to do, you may be wasting more time than you can imagine.

One of the ways you can ensure that theres a proper co-ordination between your mind and your hands is to sometimes spend a lot of time thinking through a situation. When you spend a lot of time thinking through it, signals would have been sent to other parts of your body and by the time you set out to do that thing, all the part of your body agree with the signals from the mind. Another way round is to have your hands consistently work on something such that at a point your mind can easily accept any message on it when signals go back to your mind. When you think through situations and also practice some things a lot of times, you will end up in a situation where you can easily co-ordinate activities between your mind and your hands.
