The go to place for inspiration | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

Inspiration is necessary for productivity. Unfortunately, you may need to get out of all the noise around you sometimes just so that you can be inspired. Why is that necessary? It is because the ideas that change the world will not compete with all the distractions in your head and the confusion on the outside trying hard to get you. So you need a ‘go to’ place for inspiration.

While some of you get out your comfort zone once in a while, you should remember that you need to drag your minds out of the comfort zones too. When you get out of comfort zones, you go out of your way to do things that may not necessarily be comfortable for you. You stretch yourself a little more than you would just to get something done. This kind of thing needs to be done to your mind as well.

You should take your mind out of that zone where it sees everything that’s normal. Your mind needs to get out of that area where there is nothing new for it to see. If your mind hasn’t seen anything challenging in the last six months to one year, you need to check if you still have an active mind. I just got back from a speaking engagement at Covenant University where I addressed the participants of a conference on building a career from public speaking.

I must confess that the environment of Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria is a place I always like to visit. In fact, I look forward to opportunities to visit the place because it is one of those places that challenge my mind seriously. Every time I visit the place, there is something new. While I am still admiring the new thing, there is another new thing on the way. Just as you are thinking the new thing is the best thing ever, the school has already concluded plans to do something else.

They don’t just do something new or something else, they are always beating their own records. Whatever new thing they do today is always a greater improvement on what they’ve done before. So I see things that always challenge me and I ask questions or tell myself how I need to get ready to do a lot more.

There should be a place for you too that you can run to. This should be a place where you can be inspired, clear your head, note everything you are thinking about without any distraction. Someone else may want to refer to it as a place where you can plan your life. There must be one nice environment that inspires you regardless of what situation you are in.

When you identify this kind of place, I suggest you go there to take notes and set milestones for yourself. Get into the world out there to accomplish what you have set out to accomplish. After about a year or so, you can return to that ‘go to’ place of inspiration for you. This is like recharging your mind. It’s like refueling your mind and you need to do this so that you can get greater results in life.

Don’t just go about life without planning what you want to do. Don’t run every day with all the struggles and not think about getting away for a while to be refreshed. Think about your possible ‘go to’ places, write down a list and make your choice. I should say that it does not have to be one place. You may have one or more places that you can go to when you want to be inspired.

Whatever you decide on, just make sure you go to a place once in a while to challenge your mind and be a better person at the end of the day.
