For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. – 1 Corinthians 4:20

In this passage of the Bible, we are reminded of something very crucial that every child of God needs to pay attention to. When we do, our lives will be greatly transformed and we will not be ordinary Christians. Apostle Paul says to us that the Kingdom of God is not in words but in power.

When you hear this, you may be wondering what it means when the Bible in John chapter one makes us understand that ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ How can we then turn around to say that the Kingdom of God is not in word but in power?

The first thing you need to note here is the fact that the word being referred to in the book of John is the word of God which always carries power. The word of God and the power of God are inseparable. Once the word goes out, it is as good as done. However, the word Apostle Paul was referring to in 1 Corinthians 4:20 is the word of men. People who look, talk and behave like the children of God but have no power in the words that they speak.

We were warned about some people in the book of 2 Timothy 3:5 where the Bible says, ‘having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.’ As Christians, it is a very dangerous thing to look like children of God, have the form of godliness and not carry the power of God.

Often times, when people become born again, the first way you notice is that their words will change. Now that’s a mixture both good and bad. Good because it is clear you no longer live the old life and bad because some people simply change the terms they use daily. For example, instead of saying good morning, some people start saying, ‘bless you brother or sister.’ When someone is in trouble we say, ‘all is well.’ Those are usually nice words and they can be comforting but not good enough.

Once you associate with the Kingdom of God, you must carry the power of God within you. Please note that the devil does not respect your words but the authority (power) in those words. When you have not encountered God, there can be no authority or power in those words. It is our daily encounter with God that empowers us.

Begin to seek real empowerment from God from today so that you will not just be an empty child of God. As you go on from today, you will receive the power of God in Jesus name. You will not just be a child of God with words but a child whose words are backed up by God’s power in the name of Jesus. From today, as God’s power comes upon you, no devil will be able to harass you in the name of Jesus. You will be the one harassing demons and principalities in the name of Jesus.
