The Present versus the Future │© Fola Daniel Adelesi

Sometimes the situation around you may make you think that you do not have a future. Things may appear so hard and you may have even considered suicide. If you have ever been in a situation that makes you think tomorrow cannot be better than what you have today then you are the one I really want to talk to. Have you ever gotten into a situation where nothing is working? Did you try to fix one thing and just as you were fixing that one another issue started showing up? Well I should say that I have had a taste of that and have an idea of what you are going through. I do not want to argue that your situation might be worse or not as bad as what I experienced because that is not important. What must be clarified is the fact that you are in a situation today and it cannot determine what your future will be.

As a matter of fact, it is only those who are short sighted that will think there present situation is all that determines their future. Your future is a lot more colourful than what your present situation is. You may not look like where you claim you are going but you will get there only if you do not give up. I have once said to people that I would get into a position and I said it six years before that time. A few years after I said I was going to get to that position, some things went wrong and it looked like it was never going to happen. Guess what, it was the very thing that went wrong that actually launched me into that dream I had spoken about.

Why are things very tough you may ask? Why are things not working? Why is it that everyone who could have helped you has just turned against you? You know that there are people who can help you without breaking a sweat but they are not helping you and it is really strange to you. You are so talented and things are still not working for you. You have tried to figure it out but you cannot. You really don’t have to decide your future based on what you are going through.

I know about people who are today in the future they used to have in their minds. Their past is nothing compared to the future they are now enjoying. When such people talk to you about their past and you look at who they are today, you will find it very hard to believe that these people have gone through what they are talking to you about. Sometimes things get tougher when things are about to get better. I can tell that for sure because I know that the pains of a pregnant woman will increase just at that moment when the baby is about to come out.

Can I encourage you to hold on to the picture of your future? Make sure you don’t lose it. Don’t let the present situation make you think that your future is not important. Don’t let the present situation take your future from you! You may be looking at people right now who seem to have it all. You will soon get there. You will also tell people about how things were tough and you had no idea what to do, where to go or who to turn to.

Hang on, your baby – dreams, hope, aspiration – is coming forth. The pains may increase right now but you have to push!!!
