The promise of the fourth man | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. – Isaiah 43:2

God is certainly a keeper of His word and whatever he says, no matter how hard or incomprehensible it seems to man, those words will always come to pass. God can say a thing and you can go to bed without thinking twice about it because He will do exactly as He has said. This was the scenario that played out when God said something, Abraham believed it and it was counted unto him as righteousness.

This is also the explanation of faith – that God will say something in His word and we will hold unto that word without doubting the possibility of the word in our lives. We just believe that so long as God has said it, then it must happen. The promise to show up is a promise made by God and that is a better reason to believe He will show up for us.
In the book of Isaiah, we saw God making a promise to us (his children) about how we will be with us through all that we are going through or will be going through. He said we will pass through waters and he will be with us. He also said the rivers – which can represent troubles of life – will not overflow us. Then he said we will walk through the fire and we shall not be burned. You have to trust God that the fire of life will not burn you because God is hanging in there with you. You should be confident that the troubles of life will not overflow you even though you don’t know how to swim through it because God will bare you on eagle’s wings. (Exodus 19:4)

I think it was this promised that the three Hebrew men (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego) held unto which gave them the confidence that God would save them no matter what the king was going to do to them. In Daniel chapter 3, the king said he was going to throw these men into the fire. I think it’s okay to guess that these men already knew about this promise so they said to the king, ‘If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.’
Did God deliver them? Yes, He did. The Bible records that they were thrown into the fire bound but by the time they landed in the fire, they began to walk around in the fire. That is even a proof that the fire wasn’t burning them. I think the normal thing for them would have been to run out of the fire. What would you do when someone throws you into the fire and you suddenly realise that what was used to bind you is already burnt but you are not hurt? I don’t think I would have waited a second longer in that fire but it was a different story because the son of God was in there with them.

God has promised he will show up for us so we must always remember that God will show up as he promised. I therefore pray for you that as God has already promised in his word, he will show up for you in Jesus name.
