Raised up to do good works | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

Ephesians 2:10 {For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them}
Sometimes, one wonders why God is so interested in man that he went through all that he went through. Why did he give His only begotten son and why did Jesus pay the ultimate price of laying down his life? This teaching is to expose one major reason God did all that he did just for you and I. We will look at a few questions and the answer will give us the understanding of why God went so far for us.
What God went through to ensure we were raised?
1. Despite our fall, God still gave us victory over devil (Genesis 3:15 – And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.)
2. Restoration of mankind through Noah (Genesis 7: 1-7)
3. Raising of several Prophets beginning from Moses (Exodus 3: 1-8)
The Sacrifice of Jesus to raise us
1. He descended from His state as God (Philippians 2:6 – who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God)
2. Jesus took on the form of man (John 1:1 – 4 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. & 14 – The word became flesh)
3. He permitted humiliation from man (John 19: 2-3 – And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe. Then they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands)
4. He subjected himself to test from the devil (Mathew 4:3, 6, 9. V.3. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. V.6. and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. V.9. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.)
5. Remember that he had overcome this devil (Revelations 12:11 – And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death)
6. He laid down his life willingly – John 19:11 – Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin. John 10:15 – As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. John 10:17 – Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again
Why did he go through all this? – Read Ephesians 2:10 in Amplified Bible
1. We are His workmanship (Handwork) Ephesians 2:10; Jeremiah 1:5 – Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
2. We were created in Christ Jesus (recreated or born anew) – Ephesians 2:10
3. We are to do good works – Ephesians 2:10
4. Jesus wants us to do greater works – John 14:12 – Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
What are those good works we were created to do?
1. Destabilize the kingdom of darkness and establish the kingdom of God – Luke 4: 43 – but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.
2. Heal all those who are oppressed of the devil – Acts 10:38
3. Preach good tidings to the poor; Isaiah 61:1
4. Heal the brokenhearted, Isaiah 61:1
5. Proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; Isaiah 61:1
6. Raise the dead
Always bear in mind that you were not only raised together with Christ so that you can just sit with him in heavenly places. We were raised to do good works and it is as we do those good works that we exercise our dominion on earth which was given to us by God.
