The Fourth man will show up | © Fola Daniel Adelesi

“Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” – Daniel 3:25
In the book of Daniel, we were told the story of three gentlemen – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego – who loved God so much and walked with Him. Even though they were held captive in a strange land, they never forgot their God. They walked with him and feared no other person because of their God.
We saw in verse 1 of the book of Daniel chapter 3 that ‘Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.’ After setting up the image of gold, he expected everyone to bow to the image.
The three gentlemen mentioned earlier refused to bow themselves to this image of gold and the matter was reported to the king. Our first lesson comes from this part of the scripture. They were in a strange land and I believe that things could have been tough for them. They also knew that if they bowed to the king’s golden image, the king would not do anything to them but would kill those who refused to bow. Verse 6 of Daniel 3 says, “and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” With this understanding, they still refused to bow to the golden image of the king. They held unto their God.
Why did they refuse the order of the king in that kind of situation? Look at what they said in verse 17, ‘If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.’ And then they added a clause in verse 18 which is, ‘But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.’ They had so much confidence in God and it paid off for them at the end of the day.
You may also be in some very hard situations right now. People are offering you options and they expect you to yield to their options. They have persuaded you and also told you that it’s okay to do it since others are also doing it. When they realised that you weren’t going to bow, they started making the situation harder for you.
The bible makes us understand that the three Hebrew men were thrown into the fire and it wasn’t a small fire. It was a burning fiery furnace. To make the matters worse, they were bound when they were thrown into the fire so that was no way they could run out of the fire.
Despite all that the king did, God showed up. The thing that was used to bind them was consumed by the fire but those that were bound were not consumed. The king also observed that they weren’t just loosed, someone else was in the fire with them. The Bible says, ‘Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said to the king, “True, O king. Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.’
I pray for you today that the Son of God will show up for you in your situation in Jesus name. You will not be put to shame. You will never be disappointed. You have trusted God in every situation and you have refused to run to men or other gods for help. God will reward your absolute trust in Him in Jesus mighty name.
